A few months ago, a colleague I managed who supported me with a key project was due to start a new chapter and go on maternity leave.

This naturally meant we needed to explore options for covering her position, particularly as we were entering a busy stage of the project. But rather than using our usual recruitment approach, my manager told me we would be taking part in The Well Placed programme.

People are incredibly important to Waterwise – People, Purpose and Passion are our core values! So recruiting someone who would not only have the skills suitable for the role but would be a good fit into our small, passionate team was as important.

Interviewing The Well Placed candidates was a fantastic experience – hearing the passion to give back, as well as the widely varied experiences and perspectives of the candidates was brilliant and eye-opening. Maya was really supportive and a breath of fresh air, she empowered us to recruit with a different perspective.

Fast forward to now, and Niccolò who we recruited via the scheme, has seamlessly become a valued member of our team. His project management skills and passion for positive change were an obvious fit for the role, but through recruiting from The Well Placed, we were able to appreciate the value that Niccolò’s brilliant storytelling and creative skillset could bring to Waterwise.

Going through The Well Placed programme has opened my mind to thinking about recruitment differently, with people at its heart.
