Joining the Charity Interns pilot was an opportunity for the newly created Campaigns function at Age International  to benefit from the skills and experience of someone who had built their career outside the voluntary sector.

Age International works with, and for, older people around the world. Part of our ethos is showing the contributions that older people can and do make both in the formal workforce and informally.

Caroline joined us last November for a 6 month placement and we have loved having her in the organisation.

With a background in advertising, Caroline’s design skills and creativity were so helpful for content creation.  She’s brilliant at visualising ideas.

We have benefited greatly from her fresh perspective and mature approach to work.  She asked insightful questions and was keen to learn about the sector and immerse herself in a new culture.

During her time with us, Caroline did invaluable desk research, designed an annual communications’ calendar, created web pages and social media posts, and supported the team with campaign planning.

The mutual benefit was clear to us and to Caroline. Armed with her new ‘insider’ knowledge she is feeling confident about future employment.

With the skills shortage that we face as a sector, we need to encourage greater age inclusivity and open our doors to those who want to transfer across from other sectors bringing much needed skills.
