Since our 2023 pilot, incubated by NCVO, we have witnessed the impact for our charity partners of transferring commercial skills to mission driven work through 6-month paid placements. The success of this is brought to life through our Case Studies.

Low-cost, high return

Charities face significant financial pressures often leading to cuts in staff development and training. With no slack in the budget, every investment needs to deliver. A low-cost, high return placement through The Well Placed brings a high calibre of applicant with a wealth of expertise and experience to share. They bring flexibility and an openness to learning. Their mature approach and proven methodology for how to get things done, gives teams an extra dimension. This knowledge can have a lasting impact on succession plans.

“The wealth of experience is amazing.” Alzheimer’s Society.

‘Proof of concept’ for a new role

A placement can bring potential workforce plans to life. It is an affordable way for charities to test a new role, such as corporate partnerships, hone the remit and gather evidence to make a business case to the Trustee Board to fund it permanently.

We have an impressive track record in finding experienced commercial marketers with all the skills to become successful fundraisers.

Our alumni include the Head of Partnerships and Fundraising at Skylarks, Senior Strategic Business Development Exec at Age UK and Grants and Trusts Co-ordinator at Caritas.

Access to a new, untapped pool of talented people

We make insightful, unexpected connections between capabilities and the job description. We’ll help you to find someone not on your radar and we’ll provide an alternative perspective. For example, if you’re looking for someone with exemplary writing skills we might suggest someone with a creative marketing background who thinks visually and add a refreshing dimension to storytelling.

“We feel empowered to recruit with a different perspective.” Waterwise.

Builds understanding of a younger/older dynamic

Working alongside someone with different sector experience and being exposed to a new perspective is a development opportunity for the line manager. Especially if they are managing for the first time someone who has been a manager themselves. It’s a safe space for the manager to grow; a gentler way to learn how to lead from a seasoned role model.

The programme provides leadership coaching for managers and facilitates peer-to-peer learning sessions.

Cost of participation

We are a not-for-profit organisation and are committed to keeping placements affordable for the charities we support. Our pricing is tiered to reflect organisational size, ensuring good value and accessibility. For charities with an income below £1m, participation in the programme is £2,500.

Consultancy Service

As a Charity Head, with a heavy workload and team to lead it is often difficult to look beyond the day to day and plan for the longer term.

  • Do you have a corporate partnerships strategy in place?
  • Is your database being used to best effect?
  • How do you re-ignite your lapsed donors?
  • Are you maximising potential revenue streams?

With deep experience in marketing consultancy, and a fresh perspective, we can identify and diagnose the key areas that may be holding you back.
